Tokyo Marui P90

Ok, here is another in-houser for you. The P90, one of my favorite guns, and at the same time, one of most disliked guns. How is this possible you ask ? Just read on.

Realism

As far as realism goes, this gun reportedly (I have my sources ok, back off!) is very real. A friend of mine has seen a real steel, and says this is about as close as you can get. The real gun is mostly composite, not metal, so the plastic body is actually very real. The charging handle is weak, and not convincing, but overall, the looks and feel of this gun are second to none.

Functionality

This is where it gets interesting. There is much debate over whether or not the P90 can be used for anything other than CQB. The answer my friends is yes. This gun can be used as a close quarters SAW, and a very effective mid-range support weapon. If no one on your team has a 60, this is the next best thing. The ROF is insane on an 8.4, so imagine the possibilities with bigger batteries. The two stage trigger is flawless, I can effectively fire every shot out of the 330 round hi-cap in semi without missing a beat. (Compare to AUG two stage which is awful). Due to the fact that the magazine sits ABOVE the feed tube (center picture, looking down at the top of the gun) the low cap mag can successfully fire every round in the mag. Unlike most bottom loaders who leave 4-5 in the chamber after releasing the mag. Also, to be noted, this is one of the only guns with the capacity of a hi-cap to fire every round it holds without winding. When you first load the hi-cap, just put your Allen key in, wind it about 10 times, and it will pump out all 330 rounds in succession. The P90 also has a built in red-dot, which as you can see form the bottom shot is very visible, and very effective. Targeting is quickly and easily accomplished. This gun with .25's is also insanely accurate out to max range.

Effectiveness On the Field

Well, here is where the universal debate starts. Can you use the P90 against other AEG's. Unfortunately, again there are gray areas. If you are all alone with a p90, and the other guy has an A2, or a Steyr, or another assault rifle, you will have your hands full. They will outrange you. However, if you have any kind of decent cover fire, or you are super sneaky, this gun rocks. I chalked up one kill at OSC:II with the gun, but I only used it for about 10 minutes, so that ratio isn't bad :).

Problems

To date, I have encountered zero problems with the P90 other than the lack of battery capacity, which can be fixed now with an addition to the stock. The mags I have had have all worked perfectly. I leave the red dot on accidentally all the time though, so it never has any batteries in it.

IMO Opinions

This is a great beginner gun, a great project gun, and a great gun to show off. I would not seriously consider making this your primary, as most other AEG's will outrange you even stock sometimes. However if you want to put some basic upgrades in, this gun is very competent, and field ready. Just don't get overzealous. Remember, this gun WAS designed for CQB, not long range firefights, if you buy it knowing this, you wont be dissapointed.
