Team Airsoft's In House
Review
The
SIG 551 is a shorter version of the SIG 550. While being compact and
lighter than its companion, it still quite as deadly.
Realism
Although
Ive never heald a real SIG, the gun is a dead look-a-like to pictures. The
gun is heavier than youd think as well. The SIG is the only airsoft gun
with the 3-round burst option, this can also be changed to a 2-8 round
burst. The selector switch is ambidextrous, which means firing modes can
be selected either left or right handed. The trigger guard may also be
moved for wearing winter gloves.
Functionality

The
functionality of the gun works well. The hop-up is easy to adjust,
batteries are easy to swap out. The gun uses the 8.4v AK-mini batteries,
while not the longest lasting batteries, they will hold out for about 1000
rounds. The fire rate of the gun is exceptionally high. I found it will
shoot faster than most other sub-machine guns. The folding stock will stay
in place when you move it, and is easily put pack into a normal firing
position with a good pull.
Effectiveness On the Field
The SIG, being my main weapon, gets
alot of use. Ive had many a kill with it. The gun works great in both CQB
and normal combat. The ability for magazines to attach together, which
allows you to reload a high-cap while firing your other one, is a great
advantage. The gun comes with four sights, while i only use the open
sight, the others are just as effective. The gun is very accurate and has
a high rate of fire given the length of its barrel. Ive shot targets at a
good 60 feet with it before. While I myself am not sure what motor or
springs or gears i have in this gun, i see no need to upgrade it given how
well it does.
Problems
No
matter how much you like a gun, it will always have problems. The
batteries, 8.4v AK-minis, drain after about 1000 rounds, this causes me to
carry 2 batteries, and i plan to buy a third. The 3 round burst will drain
the battery very quickly, ive found it better to leave it on full auto or
semi. If you have two or more mags attached together, and you have an
empty attached on the right of the one in the gun, you cannot fold the
stock, this can be a problem in CQB games but I found it best to carry the
mags normally in those situatiuons.
IMO Results
The
SIG overall is a very reliable weapon. Being an effective CQB and field
rifle, it makes a great primary weapon. However keep in mind that the
batteries drain quickly. This is a great gun overall and would recomend it
to beginers or anyone just wanting to try something new.
