Historically "Operation Enduring Freedom" was a combined effort between United States Forces and a group called the Northern Alliance to remove the Taliban from power in the country of Afghanistan. Operation Enduring Freedom 1 is the first in what will be a series of events each featuring airsoft simulations of either real battles or the type of situations encountered by armies during the various phases of the conflict. The inspiration for these battles are from the book "Masters of Chaos, the secret history of the special forces"; and from other accounts found on the web. Game 1 - Insertion The special forces that were going to work with the Northern Alliance had to be air lifted into the country and dropped into hostile territory. They then had to make their way to the Northern Alliance camp. Game 2 - Paktia's Shah e Kot valley The Americans decided to take the Shah e Kot valley back from the Taliban by dropping one small team at one end of the valley and dropping another larger force at the other end, the idea was for the two forces to fight up the hills on each side of the valley and meet in the middle. Those of you who study Sun Tzu know that this was a tactical mistake. But can the American team recover from this? Game 3 - Munitions Cache One of the tasks of US and Afghan forces was to search for munition caches. In our simulation, munitions have been hidden around and inside a town. The Americans along with the Afghan army need to search for the burried munitions, and take them to the American base where they can be held for disposal. However, the town in question is controlled by Taliban fighters. Game 4 - Battle for the Ridge All around Afghanistan there were battles where the Taliban would get control of a mountain ridge and then use it to stop all traffic traveling along the road below. The Americans and Northern Alliance have to work together to take back the ridge from the Taliban. For this event we will be using arm bands for everyone because both sides wore similar dress. If you have AK weapons, bring them, both the Northern Alliance and the Taliban used AKs. Shemaghs can be easily made by purchasing 1/4 yard (9") of either "ponte" or "cotton knit" fabric from JoAnns, Ponte is a polyester fabric and is cooler than a cotton knit. These fabrics come in 60" widths and do not frey like normal fabrics, so once they cut your 1/4 yard your shemagh is ready to use (this should cost about $2).
